Once you have found the right business coach for you the relationship should last anywhere between 2 and 10 years.

The average period a business owner stays with a coach is around 5 years, providing the coach is more of an ‘all-rounder’ than specialising in one niche area like HR or Marketing.

Coaching clients can be quite ‘sticky’ meaning they gain so much peace of mind having a coach on hand to sense check their ideas, that they stay with their coach for years and even decades. If there continues to be a good return on investment for the client, they stay with the coach. There is always a challenge to work through, even for the most seasoned entrepreneur!

Specialist coaches can navigate their clients through a niche area of business in around 12 months providing the business owner is properly engaged in their coaching and consistently implements the strategies agreed.

The real answer is that it is up to the business owner. The harder they work on their coaching, the quicker they can come away from their coach having at least made a reasonable return on their investment.

Leave a coach too soon however, and the return on investment isn’t likely to have been worth it.

After 2 years with a coach, you should have expanded your knowledge on most if not all areas of your business that you could leave your coach and have your business in a better place than you started.
