There are many different types of business coach out there in the marketplace.

Some offer very bespoke, nice advice on a particular area of business, like HR or marketing, whereas others offer a more all rounded package designed to help business owners with all areas of their businesses.

Some coaches are very niche and will only work with one industry sector whereas others have such a depth of knowledge they work across multiple industry sectors.

Generally speaking, the more niche the coach, the higher their rates are likely to be.

The danger of employing a niche coach, is that they some can find themselves lacking original ideas and can find themselves in the ‘well that’s what all my other clients do’ mindset. Whereas a coach with a broad range of clients and experience can bring fresh ideas from multiple industry sectors to the table that could help you keep ahead of the competition.

I’m not for one minute saying niche coaches are not as good as more general coaches, it is just something to be aware of when looking for the right coach for you. If a niche coach has a great track record in your industry, there is a reason for that, and they could well be exactly what you need.

Interview a selection of coaches when narrowing down your selection.

The chemistry between you and your coach is likely to be the most influential factor in how effective business coaching will be for you and your business.
